Early Years Transition
When you receive your letter from the admissions team you will receive a letter form school with an appointment for two of our staff to come to your home and do a visit. This is in place to support the transition phase into school (either F1 or F2) by meeting your child in their surroundings and talking to them about their likes an interests with a familiar grown up. On this visit we will also give children their new school book bag for their first day at school.
During the home visit you will be given a list of dates On these days children/parents will be invited to explore both their new indoor and outdoor environments and meet other children in the setting, stay for lunch and attend any upcoming events such as fairs, performances or sports days. During this time children can explore and parents can chat to other parents new to the setting. Parents will be given a booklet containing all the information they need about PE, uniform, absence reporting etc.
Transition between settings
If your child attends one of our feeder nurseries for pre-school or Nursery then we will also arrange to visit them in their current setting and talk to their key person so that we can get a good picture of what your child is like as a learner before they come to us; ensuring we provided an environment what suites the needs of your child. We have close links with Grimethorpe family centre and can also meet with families and support workers to transfer parental support over to schools wellbeing team too.
Transition to KS1
To prepare children for Key Stage 1 transition days are arranged in school. Children have the opportunity to meet new class teachers prior to finishing for summer holidays. They will have some lessons with their new teacher and also get used to new playgrounds, cloakrooms etc. The EYFS and KS1 teams liaise to share information regarding each child's learning and progress to support this transition.
